Hotels, guesthouses and youth hostels may be found throughout the country. On this website they are listed either by region, (the west, the capital area and so on) or community (Akranes, Reykjavik and so on). Our search engine should also help you find accommodation according to various specifications. It should be noted that the classification system in Iceland is not yet uniform, meaning that hotels may or may not be listed according to international classification standards.

Country hotels in Iceland tend to be small and simple, though there are exceptions, and they are clean. There are four different hotel chains operating throughout the country. Icelandair Hotels operates the Edda hotels, most of them which are school dormitories in winter doubling as tourist accommodation in the summer. Foss Hotels is another chain of independent hotels, which guarantees a certain standard in facilities and service. Rainbow Hotels is another, and is similar to the Foss Hotels.
"Farm Holidays", offers lodging with private families on more than one hundred farms across the country. There are now about 30 Youth Hostels in Iceland, varying from new hostels with modern facilities to charming old renovated houses. Camping is a popular summer activity with Icelanders and tourists alike. There are about 117 camping sites throughout the country, all of which meet the approved standards of the National Camping Site Association.
