ICELAND 2002
The Mecca of Quality Sport

Welcome!

It gives me great pleasure to introduce the selection of fishings I have for the 2003 season.

Last year was generally good, and many rivers in Iceland saw an increase of 20 to 30% in their salmon catches. Our main salmon rivers Breiddalsa and Hrutafjardara were no exception.

Breiddalsa is establishing its reputation as a big-salmon river, with good number of fish between 10 and 20lb, with several over 20lb caught last season! For the 2003 season, a first-class lodge will be built overlooking the river. No expense will be spared and the lodge will have a fantastic view over the river and valley. Breiddalsa is an idyllic option for those seeking big fish and want high standard of accommodation in a lodge.

We also offer good hunting in the vicinity of the Breiddalsa for ptarmigan wildfolw and reindeer. There are good opportunities for combining hunting with fishing in the late season.

Our first year with Hrutafjardara was a pleasant one, and this is now a highly sought after river. There's always the chance of catching a big fish, and only three rods on the river. It is an ideal venue for a small party wishing to have a river to themselves.

I am also offering prime weeks on other quality rivers. Included in the 2003 programme are: North Coast - Hofsa, Vididalsa, Laxa in Adaldal; West Coast - Grimsa, Haukadalsa, and Leirarsveit.

Our sea-trout programme, based around the Grenlaekur and Tungalaekur rivers on the south coast, gives anglers the opportunity to catch a lot of fish and at the same time be casting over trophy fish, especially in the spring and autumn. I am very excited about adding the Tungalaekur sea-trout river to the list. This is some of the most productive sea-trout fishing to be found anywhere, and you don´t have to travel to the ends of the earth to find it! This is an ideal opportunity to visit Iceland, expecially in the springtime when 50-100 fish a day is normal! Come and try this sensational fishing.

Most of our rivers hold Arctic char in good numbers. Be it the large fish in the Grenlækur or the lower pools of the Hrutafjardara, or the one to two-pounders that swarm into the Hvolsa or Breiddalsa, our foreign guests never fail to thrill at these very sporting and handsome fish. A two or three days fishing specifically for char or trout are easily added onto a week's salmon fishing, or vice versa.

Brown trout fishing on the Minnivallalaekur has proved very popular with overseas clients. Last year saw visits from John Goddard, well-known trout fisherman from UK and John Randolph editor of FLY-FISHERMAN magazine, both of whom left our trout rivers pleased and impressed. I believe we can offer the best dry-fly fishing in Iceland at Minnivallalaekur, and with our sea-trout fishing I am sure we are offering the best choice for trout fishing in Iceland!

Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information, or if you have a specific question about the fishing.

I hope that we may meet soon at the riverside, somewhere in Iceland!

Yours sincerely,
Throstur Ellidason
