Iceland is a major breeding and stopover territory for several species of geese, including the Greyleg, Pink foot and Barnacle, which are the species that may be hunted.  The season runs from 20th August (barnacle goose season begins on 1st September) until 20th October. However the best shooting is during the last two weeks of September and first week of October. There are several areas of private land to choose from on the north, west and south coasts. Fishing conditions at Gaula improved on Tuesday, and temperature rised to some 9º and a new run of fresh salmon enter the river, being fly fishing more efective than the days before.

The party fishing Sandbrota landed 3 big fish and lost one. Our Spanish friend Cesar hit again with a great fish, perfect condition, and becomes a member of the exclusive 30 pounder club with a 33 lbs fish! The fish landed today weighted 15 kg, 10 kg and 7 kg., and all of them were carefully released back to the river. Arni.

Fish are running and there are fish in most places, they are big as usual and already few have been landed over 30 pounds. Fishing has been good , but this week has not been a problem free week on the Kola river , there have been other people fishing the river than our clients which has been irritating.  The weeks to come I hope will be better.  Arni More...

The opening party in Blanda just finished their fishing at noon today. As reported earlier, this was the best opening in years - 44 multi-winter salmon landed and several lost.

ICELAND - We are experiencing the best opening of Blanda EVER!!  Blanda opened Saturday morning with 4 rods fishing beat number 1.  Already 40 salmon have been caught.  The smallest one 10 lbs, 3 over 90cm but most of them are 12 - 14 lbs.  And they sure are quite a fighters. Most of the salmon is caught on German Snaelda.

Axel Wimmer landed a 46 pound, 20,5 KG  Salmon from the Gaula river  yesterday , what a fish ! The biggest so far for the river this season and surely biggest for happy Axel ! More...

 The 2010 Season in Canada in just opening. And your fly could be about to swing over the nose of a forty pound monster Atlantic Salmon. I have one friend from Western Canada a few years back who had never been salmon fishing in his life, Yes, he was a very good trout fisherman and was with his father on a first time ever salmon adventure. He has fishing a big green Bomber with little success all day, Yet he could see through the absolutely crystal clear Bonaventure water that some really big ones including a monster were lying just a few meters away under the canoe. Suddenly after many hundred casts, the behemoth came slowly up, up, up and took his fly in its mouth and headed back to his lie. Long story short, my friend hooked up and after a near one hour battle had his first ever salmon in hand...a 41 pound trophy that while released will stay in his memory bank for an eternity. 

There is loads of fun and fishing going on in Gaula now, Arni´s there with a group of people and all fish they are catching on the Gaula river are big. Follow the news and pictures as the fishing goes on, Arni will go from Norway to Russia and we will keep tracking the fishing path. Gaula is high and cold , but we are taking fish , here is a picture from today of Kiri Te Kanawa , Kevin , Gunnar and young James, James took his first salmon in his live today and it was 23 pounds ! Great start.

When the Silvers are running in Alaska on the renowned Kanektok River there is a fever in the air. Fish fanatics from around the globe will gather with an insatiable desire to get in on the action. From late July through end of the season the acrobatic jumping, screaming runs, violent thrashing the agony of defeat and exhilaration of victory and you should see what the fish do. This is probably the most sought after species in all of  Alaska and the fishing fever spreads like wildfire. This is, however, a very short and highly sought after season and available rods fly out the door. 

Very warm yesterday and caused high water on Gaula,  the night fishing was very slow , I am sure that it will get better in afternoon when river drops ,  we landed 2 of 10kg during night. I heard of some big fish landed on the lower Gaula including a salmon of 18.5 kg!  Arni arnibald@lax-a.is
