Welcome to
Seltjarnarnes
Seltjarnarnes is a mainly residential community
situated on the tip of a peninsula bearing same name. It is adjacent
to the western part of Reykjavík and overlooks Skerjafjörður fjord
and Faxaflói bay. The highest point in town is the Valhúsahæð
hill, from which one may watch the sun setting across the bay.
The oldest house in the town is Nesstofa, built in 1760 and the
original seat of Iceland's first medical doctor. Today it houses
a medical museum. Seltjörn, an impounded lagoon, is a bird sanctuary
and has limited access during the nesting season. The furthest
tip of the peninsula is called Grótta and is the location of a
lighthouse. This “island” is detached from the mainland at high
tide but can be reached on foot when the tide is out. Seltjarnarnes
is the site of a fine golf course, Nesvöllur, and is an ideal
place for strolling.
