Vogar á Vatnsleysuströnd

Vatnsleysustrandarhreppur county joins the capital area to the Reykjanes area and has 30km of beach. Vatnsleysustrandar road, highway no. 421, is about 12km long and winds through the county, making it the perfect way to see the area at a slower pace than possible on the busy Reykjanesbraut highway.
Nature lovers especially should consider the local road, as there is a wonderful view from it of the lakes and mountains in the area as well as the bird life. Local sights include Vogastapi promontory, Vogatjörn pond, Kálfatjarnarkirkja church and Staðarborg, a ring-shaped ruin which once served as a sheep pen and from which there is a magnificent view.
Those travellers wishing to stay longer than just one day to enjoy the nature and facilities of the area should know that Vogar town now has a brand new swimming pool with hot-pots, steam baths etc. There is also a campsite in the calm and beautiful valley next to the pool.
So you see there is enough to keep anyone wishing to visit us interested and we bid our guests welcome and hope you enjoy everything our town and county have to offer.
