Shopping for Shoes in Iceland

Believe it or not - and this is absolutely true - many Icelandic expats actually come home to stock up on new shoes. Well, okay, maybe not just to stock up on new shoes, but it is something they like doing whilst they are here.

Perhaps it is those centuries spent wearing nothing on the feet except woollen socks and sheepskin that created the present demand for quality shoes in this country. Today it takes a special kind of shoe to stand up to both the climatic conditions and Icelanders' fashion demands; it has to be well-made and it has to look good.

Luckily such shoes do exist. Here are some designer names you can find in Iceland: Bruno Magli, Camel, Destroy, Pollini, Salamander, Andiamo, Caterpillar and Ecco. And the prices are hard to beat - even if you live in Milan!
