Wonderful Boats Trips on the Glacier Lagoon.
The Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón), a glacial river lagoon in Iceland, is part of one of the shortest rivers in Iceland, Jökulsá á Breidamerkursandi, which is only 1500 meters (4900 feet) long.

The Glacier Lagoon in Iceland is next to highway number one, about 350 km east from Reykjavík, and it is said to be one of the greatest natural wonders in Iceland. The lagoon was made recently - the result of a warmer climate. The surface is at sea level and sea water flows into the lagoon at high tide.

Huge blocks of ice constantly break off the glacier, Breidamerkurjokull, and large icebergs from the glacier float out onto the lagoon. The lagoon is not very wide but it is 160 meters deep. The glacier Breidamerkurjökull is a tongue of the glacier Vatnajökull - the largest ice-cap in Europe.

The company Jökulsárlón offers exciting boat trips on the Glacier Lagoon. And you can sail among the hugh icebergs. It is really fascinating. The ice from the glacier is over 1,000 years old. This is a very popular sightseeing attraction, widely regarded as the most picturesque scenery in all of south Iceland. The duration of the boat-trip is approximately 40 minutes.

The Glacier Lagoon in Iceland is the boundary between the settlements of Hrollaugur Rognvaldsson and Thórdur Illugi, who stranded his ship there and bought his land from Hrollaugur.

The Glacier Lagoon is a famous tourist attraction, and has been seen by more people than any other Icelandic site, but that in part due to the James Bond film, You Only Live Twice, being filmed there.
